'Born' some twenty years ago we have a rich and varied history. Volleyball is very important to us but in equal measure we a very friendly club with social events and communal outings every so often. The CommitteeThe AGM 2011 took place on Friday 6th May at Mark's house, and we now have a new and enthusiastic committee, bristling with ideas and plans for the upcoming season:
Linlithgow
Hornets Volleyball Club
Minutes
of Annual General Meeting
Held on Friday 6 May 2011, 8pm-11pm at Mark’s house
Present: Mark, Shirley, Naz, Jean, Russ, Evelyn,
Pascal
Apologies: Keith, Mel
The agenda prepared by Chairwoman Evelyn was duly circulated
at the start of the meeting.
Chairman Mark welcomed everybody and offered refreshments
(thanks Mark).
1) Chairman’s report.
This year the club has recovered from the “trauma” of last
year and has been pleased to see some historic figures coming back and enjoying
their volleyball. The year has been good, with approximately 27 different
players attending.
It is recognised that the club has not developed according
to the “5 year vision” and that what was planned last year has not really been
implemented due to a number of factors such as people leaving and the district
league reorganisation. There is also no more junior group.
However we have also welcomed some enthusiastic newcomers
including a few juniors, which is very positive.
2) Treasurer’s report
Russ (helped by Mark) has done some fantastic work to put
the club’s finances in order after the difficulties of last year. Full details
for the year 2010-11 are attached and the summary is as follows:
- Current
balance £1,101.95
- Cashflow
has been positive every month
- Costs
include letting of the hall (£36 per week as we officially rent only half
of the hall), payment to the District league and support to Jean’s
coaching course
- Incomes
include members’ payments (£5/session or £18/month by direct debit) and
£190 profit made by organising the January district league tournament
After some debate, it was agreed to purchase 2 new match
balls and velcros for aerial on the net and to maintain existing fees. We will also look at purchasing ball
holder(s) subject to cost and approval of committee. We recognise the risk that
the cost of letting the hall may increase next year and it is important we
maintain a positive cashflow.
All thanked Russ and Mark for keeping the accounts in good
health.
3) Social secretary’s report
Jean honestly recognised that she could not remember the
main social event of the year due to an advance state of drunkenness at that
said Christmas bash.
Other planned events such as BBQ, Portobello weekend, poker
night did not happen due to lack of interest. However Perth’s tournament is
coming soon (28-29 May) and all those interested should make contact with Jean
asap.
Some options for this coming year were discussed: family BBQ
in the summer (at Beecraig? Gullane? Portobello?); Go Ape at Beecraig. To be
confirmed if there is sufficient interest.
4) Wednesday volleyball
Format
We had some long debate whether we wanted to change the
current training/playing format on Wednesdays. Finally it was agreed to
maintain the same format:
- Start
at 7.00 for warm-up, then
- Coaching/drills
to 8.15
- Play:
8.15 to 9.45
- Option
to arrive at 8.00 for warm-up and play
Coaching
Current volunteers able to coach include: Shirley, Russ,
Jean, Naz, Keith, Alex. Possibly Mel.
Russ will circulate the coaching rota to the above
volunteers.
5) Election of new committee
All the following candidates have been unanimously elected:
- Chairperson: Evelyn
- Treasurer: Russ
- Secretary: Mark
- Social Secretary:
Jean, assisted by Mel
- Head coach:
Shirley, assisted by Mel
- Representative of
French and recreational volleyball members: Pascal
6) Forthcoming competitions
Jean will review what’s happening with the District League
next year
Russ and Mark will update the website to include forthcoming
events. These include:
- Perth – 28-29 May
- Portobello beach
volleyball 11-12 June
- Beach volleyball in
summer (Tynemouth, Troon, St Andrews, Portobello)
- Edinburgh District
league from end of September
Note that Wednesday’ sessions will continue in the hall during
the summer.
7) AOB
New strips in black & white with numbers and logo (to
match existing ones but without advertising) are planned (action: Russ).
It was noted that we are not affiliated to SVA and are not
insured (as it is not really required for the format we play).
There are refereeing and coaching courses available if
people are interested. The club can support financially those interested,
subject to prior approval of the committee and cashflow position of the club.
Mark and Russ will continue to update the website.
