Perth 2011 - Scottish Open VolleyBall Tournament May 29/30 2011 This year we entered a team in the Mixed 2nd Division competition. After a tough two days in some interesting weather we fought hard to win the division. http://www.sovt.co.uk/latest-news Day 1 On the first day we had 7 players; Jean, Mel, Ali, Mark, Nas, Iain and Russ. We played four matches and won three which got us through into the top group for day 2. The weather was windy, sunny and showers, so a few sun/wind burnt people but generally pleased with ourselves. Day 2 On day 2 we had six players, as per day one but without Iain in his bright yellow shirt! The second day started early at 9am we played NUVOC. This was a tough game, we won the first set and NUVOC the second, just as we were about to comeback from behind in the third the official;s stopped the game declaring it void. The fixtures had apparently been changed and we should have been in a different leg of the tournament than NUVOC, we would however get to play them later in the final! Early morning against NUVOC. We then played 3 matches in our group winning them all and therefore through to the final. Whilst there was less rain on day 2 the wind was really blowing and some tactical changes were made (just trying to serve in was a task in itself) and we played some good volleyball although the conditions werent the best. Winning all out pool games took us to the final where we met NUVOC again. It was a very closely fought game, the lead changing many times and some tense moments. In the end we won the first two sets to win the division, all that remained was to hang around for the end of the top mens match so we could receive our trophy. The Final Waiting for the presentation. In all a fantastic weekend for all concerned and the best result for the club to date at Perth, roll on next year. More photos will be added in the galleries soon... West Lothian District League Cup NUVOC organised an outdoor session at the Meadows in Edinburgh to contest the District League Cup. Even though the only teams were NUVOC themselves and Linlithgow Hornets we decided to play anyway and had a friendly final. We only had 5 players, Jean, Martin, Nas, Mark and Russ, but NUVOC were gracious enough to leand us one of their subs each game. We won in three straight sets mainly due to our strong serving. Good fun was had by all and we brought home the cup for another year. From left to right: Martin, Nas, Jean, Russ and Mark. |
